Francisco Lindor got ‘good news’ on back injury, expects brief absence

Lindor left Sunday’s game early after being out of the lineup on Saturday.

Francisco Lindor and the Mets got some positive news on Monday, when it was revealed that the star shortstop’s back injury is not serious.

Speaking before Monday’s game, Lindor said he got “good news” after his MRI and that his absence could be “three-to-five” days or “two-to-three.”

“Depends on how my back reacts,” he added about the timeline.

Lindor noted that the “best case scenario” would be returning at some point during the three-game series against the Nationals that starts on Monday night at Citi Field.

He did not receive a shot in his back but is taking medication for it.

“I’m expecting it to last the rest of the year, but it’s going to be manageable,” Lindor explained about playing through the injury once he returns.

Speaking after Lindor, manager Carlos Mendoza said he was “relieved” by the news.

Lindor was forced out of Sunday’s game against the Phillies after just one inning after missing Saturday’s game.

His back issue first came to light on Friday, when he departed the Mets’ blowout win a few innings early after not sliding into second base on a double and appearing to tweak his back.

After Sunday’s game, Lindor revealed that he had been dealing with a back issue for a few weeks.

With Lindor limited lately, Luisangel Acuña was called up ahead of Saturday’s game for his major league debut. He started at shortstop on Saturday in place of Lindor, and replaced him on Sunday after Lindor left the game early.

Following their series against the Nats, the Mets welcome in the Phillies on Thursday for the start of a four-game series that will be their final home series of the regular season.

Following the tilts against Philadelphia, the Mets head to Atlanta and Milwaukee for a regular-season-ending six-game road trip.
