Report: Tottenham are now hoping they’ve signed another youngster who could be as good as Destiny Udogie

Alejo Veliz may have the talent to prove to be as successful an acquisition for Tottenham Hotspur as Destiny Udogie or Pape Matar Sarr.

The Athletic reports that this is the case and that Spurs beat out a number of other teams to sign the striker in a £13 million deal this past summer.

Alejo Veliz’s appearance in Tottenham’s previous two Premier League games, even if it was just for a few minutes in each of the triumphs over Liverpool and Luton, seems meaningful.

Fans of Spurs likely had modest hopes for the 20-year-old’s ability to have an immediate effect. Ange Postecoglou does not, however, appear to be a coach who assigns minutes simply for the purpose of doing so. Therefore, the fact that he is already playing in the Premier League speaks something.

Tottenham hope Alejo Veliz will be as good a signing as Destiny Udogie

Furthermore, The Athletic reports that Tottenham is hoping that Veliz would be as successful a signing for the team as Destiny Udogie and Pape Matar Sarr have been. One season after his £15 million move to North London, Udogie in particular has emerged as a revelation.

If Veliz can achieve such heights, it will be a game changer for Tottenham. Udogie has been superb and has cemented his position as the top pick for the left-back position.

Ange Postecoglou has clearly seen something in Spurs striker

Veliz won’t be able to establish his dominance over the striker position any time soon unless something extraordinary happens. But it’s obvious that there are very high expectations for him.

Journalist Alasdair Gold asserted during a segment of the Gold and Guest speak Tottenham podcast that Veliz had impressed everyone at Spurs practice.

Thus, it would seem that he has gotten off to a speedier start than many had anticipated. And as a result, following the international break, he might play a more significant part.

If that is the case, it means Postecoglou believes he is coming closer to being prepared for the opportunity.
