Report: Spurs make offer for £6.5m defender – Green light from player and agent
Positive updates on Tottenham Hotspur’s alleged pursuit of Uruguayan defender Sebastian Caceres have been given by a number of journalists.
The player and his agent have given the go-ahead for a January transfer. Best of all, Spurs might only have to pay £6.5 million for it.
In the summer transfer window, Tottenham ideally needed to sign two first-team center halves. The fact that the team gave up 63 goals in the league last year, which placed them in the bottom five of the division for that specific area, complicated an otherwise miserable campaign.
The addition of Micky van de Ven has been a tremendous help, and one of the highlights of Ange Postecoglou’s stellar season-opening performance has been his partnership with Cristian Romero at the back.
Romero’s red card means that Spurs will be without him for three games following their chaotic loss to Chelsea on Monday. Even worse, van de Ven suffered a serious hamstring injury during the game; it is currently unclear how long he will be sidelined.
Are Spurs signing Sebastian Caceres?
Spurs’ defense will be severely exposed as a result of those absences, so it should come as no surprise that the team is being linked to several center backs in the upcoming transfer window. It appears that Sebastian Caceres may hold the key to resolving the Lilywhites’ problems.
Reporter Fernando Esquivel claims that Tottenham has made Club America a formal offer. The player and the agent have given their approval. The reporter also says that Club America will probably reply to the offer shortly and that Spurs intend to complete the acquisition in January.
According to Jonathan Pena, the transaction could be completed for as little as £6.5 million. “Sebastian Caceres wants to travel to Europe as soon as possible,” he stated. We say it again: Club America will not part with him. They now demand a minimum of $8 million.
The Uruguayan’s club is rumored to be trying to cash in while they can, as his contract is set to expire in a little over a year.
For Tottenham, to acquire an international defender of that caliber at that cost would be an incredible bargain. To ease our minds a bit for the second half of the season, let’s hope we can finalize this deal as soon as possible.
