Report: Postecoglou wants to sign £13m defender for Spurs, his speed’s on par with Van de Ven
According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur wants to add more defensive players during the January transfer window.
The goal of Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou is reportedly to bring Lloyd Kelly to N17, according to TEAMtalk.
Postecoglou is reportedly impressed by the Bournemouth defender, according to the outlet.
According to the report, the Tottenham manager is keen to bolster his defensive options with additional quality.
Spurs currently feature a fantastic first-choice center-back duo in Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.
But as we witnessed right before the international break, they have strength beyond those two players.
In light of this, Kelly is an excellent choice for the Spurs for a variety of reasons.
Tottenham target has ‘everything he needs to be a top, top player’
In his prime, the £13 million player is incredibly talented and, more importantly, has a ton of Premier League experience.
Eddie Howe of Newcastle United, who was at Bournemouth at the time, said of Kelly several years ago that he “got everything he needs to be a top, top player.”
Kelly moves quickly as well. With a top speed of 35.42 km/h, he was among the fastest center backs in the Premier League the previous season, according to Squareka.
This is comparable to Van de Ven quite a bit. The Spurs star’s highest recorded speed in the Premier League this season is 35.5 km/h, according to The Mirror.
Even better, Kelly’s deal expires at the conclusion of the current campaign. You would think the Cherries would be willing to sell him and make at least some money back if he chooses not to extend his contract.
The Spurs might even be able to sign him for nothing if they can hold out until the summer. For such an accomplished player, this would be an incredible deal.
Tottenham will undoubtedly be hoping to sign Kelly the following season, but there will be fierce competition from other elite teams for his services.
