Report: Johan Lange has urged Tottenham to sign £25m player this month, he really likes him

Johan Lange, the new technical director of Tottenham Hotspur, is said to have played a significant role in the loan signing of Timo Werner.

Tuesday night saw the official announcement of Timo Werner’s transfer to Tottenham; the German became Ange Postecoglou’s first January signing.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Werner, 27, has signed a six-month loan agreement with Spurs, with the possibility to purchase the player for approximately £14 million this summer.

Werner was reportedly eager to move to North London after Postecoglou persuaded him to rejoin the Premier League.

Johan Lange, the technical director of Tottenham, appears to have had a significant role in the transaction as well.

Lange urged Tottenham to sign Werner

According to The Athletic, Lange attempted to arrange a trade before the transfer market opened, knowing that Tottenham needed a new, quick forward.

Along with Postecoglou, the former Aston Villa player was reportedly “one of the key figures” in the Werner deal.

The Spurs manager does think highly of Werner and knows he will succeed in his system.

Lange had plenty of time to get ready before an important January window when he joined Tottenham from Villa back in October.

It goes without saying that Spurs’ injury luck hasn’t been great this year.

With Heung-Min Son absent for the Asian Cup, the former Villa manager has already found a replacement attacker for Postecoglou at a crucial moment.

However, Spurs have not yet acquired the much-needed center back, and Bayern Munich is trying to sabotage their attempt to recruit Radu Dragusin.

Werner could, however, prove to be a wise addition for Spurs, particularly if Postecoglou can maximize the forward’s potential.

Between 2020 and 2022, the German struggled at Chelsea and was eventually moved back to Leipzig for a reported £25 million.

In just 14 appearances in all competitions this season, he has managed just two goals.
