Postecoglou pokes fun at Micky van de Ven as Spurs boss gives glimpse of future

As our Spurs journalists Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest analyze all the club’s news, it’s time for the newest episode of Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham.

Following their ascent to the top of the Premier League standings, the Tottenham team and staff were all smiles and laughter.

After Yves Bissouma received two yellow cards in the span of 90 seconds towards the conclusion of the first half, Spurs struggled to a 1-0 victory against Luton Town on Saturday with just 10 men. Micky van de Ven, a 22-year-old center back for Tottenham, scored the game-winning goal after cutting back from James Maddison and finishing expertly after a quick corner routine with Dejan Kulusevski.

However, don’t tell Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou that the Dutchman’s finish was excellent.

“Was it? I mistook it for a simple toe poke. A greater standard applies to me. The head coach laughed as he stood up and left his chair. “It was a fantastic finish, but I don’t think there will be many highlights of it moving forward,” he added.

The Australian had just argued that since his Tottenham team is still very much in its formative years, fans should be enthusiastic about what’s to come from them in the future.

I’ve always said, mate, I enjoy winning. I’ve spent my entire career doing it. Since I did it there, it is rejected. Since I enjoy winning, our success is not solely dependent on football. I lead the team to play the way we do by creating a successful environment, the player added.

“You don’t always understand it, and sometimes you don’t get it right away, but we’re playing football and want to be a club that wins football games. That is our intention, and that is what I work toward.

In the most recent episode of their podcast, Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham, our Tottenham journalists Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest examine all of the aforementioned topics as well as the team’s victory at Luton and the upcoming January transfer window.
