‘Oh my god’ – Ollie Watkins cannot believe what he has heard about Spurs

Ollie Watkins, a striker for Aston Villa, was perplexed to discover that Tottenham’s home stadium is simply known as the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs moved from White Hart Lane to their 62,850-seat stadium, which is located on the same site as the former stadium, approximately five years ago.

Tottenham’s relocation to the London Stadium has gone well, in contrast to the problems that supporters of certain other clubs have encountered when they have shifted stadiums (such as West Ham’s move from Upton Park to the stadium).

That could be as a result of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium’s ability to capture the spirit of White Hart Lane.

We’ve seen how lively and atmospheric the stadium can get now that fans are becoming enthusiastic about the new project under Ange Postecoglou, and many have even declared it to be the greatest in the Premier League (talkSPORT).

Watkins cannot believe what Spurs stadium is called

Watkins was surprised to learn that the stadium is still referred to by its generic name because the naming rights have not yet been sold.

The striker was asked to name eight Premier League stadiums in under 30 seconds while playing the well-known game “lies” on Sky Sports with his Villa teammate Matty Cash.

Watkins said, “Oh my God,” after learning that Spurs’ stadium is simply known as the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Watkins had forgotten to mention the name of the team’s home field. Don’t they need to adopt a new name?

Potential naming rights sponsors can feel secure knowing that there is value in the transaction because the generic name, “Tottenham Hotspur Stadium,” has stuck. Daniel Levy and the Spurs board will adore this.

The Spurs management may have been concerned that supporters and commentators would still refer to it as White Hart Lane, which would have turned off prospective sponsors because it can be difficult for a new sponsorship name to become accepted in situations like that.
