Norwich City: David Wagner on summer transfer business

David Wagner insists Norwich City fans should not be concerned at the lull in transfer business.

The Canaries were quick out of the traps to recruit Ashley Barnes, Jack Stacey and Shane Duffy, before adding Spanish wide player Borja Sainz and a clutch of development talent.

Wagner stressed after the midweek German tour friendly win over Darmstadt they are still ready to act, and further incomings do no hinge on the expected departures of Milot Rashica or Max Aarons this summer.

“No, this is not the case. At the minute it is quite quiet on the transfer window front,” he said. “Obviously we have our ideas in our head. But sometimes, and in Germany we say ‘one stone has to fall before the others will fall as well’, and we are in a great position to wait, because in every transfer window the stones will fall.

“Then we will assess it when the time is right but, clearly, we have our eye on transfers and the transfer market as well. This does not depend on selling players.

“The reason we haven’t done anything else isn’t because we haven’t sold anyone. It is only because the stones which we expect to fall have not done so, so far.”

Wagner has already challenged his attacking players, in particular, to make themselves indispensable for the new Championship tour.

“I think it is anything but to be concerned. I think it’s about being excited,” he said. “Johnny Rowe is like a new signing for us, Przemyslaw Placheta is like a new signing for us.

“Everybody has seen that Christos Tzolis came back in a totally different shape. So I think everyone should be excited about the players which we have in the building.

“They have to show it not only in one pre-season game, not only two, they have to show me consistently they are alternatives, and clear, proper alternatives as well.

“But obviously I said this before, I still think that there will be some ins and outs between now and the end of the window as well.”
