MOT View: Farke now on high alert to seal ‘Magic’ new Leeds transfer as news drops MOT Leeds News

Daniel Farke must now be on high alert to sign Edouard Michut at Leeds United as transfer news emerges

Paris Saint-Germain youngster Edouard Michut is reportedly open to joining Leeds United this summer which should now put Daniel Farke on high alert to complete his transfer to Elland Road.

Former Eurosport journalist Dean Jones told GiveMeSport (20 July) that Michut is “open-minded” about joining Farke’s team at Elland Road and their style of play is something that could attract the youngster into joining.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Sunderland and contributed to their terrific campaign where they got to the play-off semi-final only to fall at the last hurdle to Coventry City, and his performances have attracted plenty of interest with Fabrizio Romano confirming Leeds’ interest in the youngster.

And according to Jones, Michut would be open to the idea given Farke’s style of play.

He said:

Michut would offer something a bit different to Leeds and he is open-minded about the move as it could fit his style of play.

“He could have stayed at Sunderland but he wasn’t getting on the ball enough and at Leeds, a side we have to expect will dominate games, would give him more opportunity to get on the ball and make things happen.

“He has a nice bit of creation about him and what he lacks in experience he makes up for in technical quality. I think he would be a really good addition to the squad as they are going to need various tools for different types of games and, in the middle, it does seem like they are light of someone who can bring what he can.

“Leeds do have limitations in terms of their spending in the Championship this season and this could be an astute addition.”

Described by Sports Illustrated as “magic”, Michut had the opportunity to rejoin Sunderland again this summer but opted against the move despite a “convincing season” in the North East and the French youngster recently gave an interview to L’Equipe [via Leeds Live] claiming the Black Cat’s brand of football didn’t suit his style admitting he’s “more of a player who touches between 80 and 100 balls per game and, in this pattern, I’m at 50-60 maximum. I thank the president for understanding my choice not to stay.”

With Farke favouring a possession and positional brand of football which will certainly be incorporated at Elland Road, it’s not a surprise to see Michut reportedly attracted by the opportunity, and such news must mean the German boss is on high alert to secure his “Magic” services for next season.

Across his 20 Championship appearances last term, Michut’s 88% pass accuracy and 52% dribble success rate were integral in progressing the play in the middle of the park, whilst he chipped in with an admirable 1.7 tackles per game too [Sofascore].

The Frenchman possesses the kind of unique playmaking attributes that Farke has become accustomed to throughout his managerial career, a fleet-footed midfielder displaying wonderful vision, positional flexibility and a playing style that would certainly establish his progressive and attacking front-footed approach at Elland Road.

Michut’s uniqueness in the middle-third coupled with his aggression and tough-tackling out of possession makes him a wonderful fit in Farke’s system, and given the Whites have already lost the likes of Brendan Aaronson, and Marc Roca who could have added plenty to the German’s possession-based approach, it is imperative Leeds United add a player capable of fulfilling his demands at Elland Road.

It remains to be seen whether Paris Saint-Germain would accept another loan move for Michut, but it’s uncertain he won’t be featuring regularly for the French champions next season, which means the 20-year-old will be seeking another loan opportunity to further improve his craft and development.

Leeds United would be silly not to pursue this move
