Son Heung-Min appeared to be making a subtle jab at Cristiano Ronaldo by declaring that “money doesn’t matter” to him, despite his ties to Saudi Arabia.

WHAT OCCURED? The big-spending Saudi Pro League has reportedly targeted Son, with Al-Ittihad contemplating a proposal. According to BBC Sport, they were ready to offer Son a four-year contract for £25.6m ($32.6m) per season during current transfer window.
HOW THEY SAID IT: “I have many things to do in the Premier League,” Son stated, implying a swipe at the league’s spending power. Money doesn’t matter to me anymore; what matters is the joy of playing football in my favorite league.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE: The well-funded Saudi Pro League is far from finished, with three Chelsea stars – Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – all connected with moves to various clubs. Son, on the other hand, will not be accompanying them.
WHAT NEXT? Son is likely to be involved when Spurs play West Ham in their pre-season opener in Australia, in what is set to be Ange Postecoglou’s first match as manager.
Heung-min Son has dismissed talk of him making a surprise move to Saudi Arabia this summer. However, while Al-Ittihad are supposedly readying a £50m bid for Son, Tottenham have no interest in selling the forward as they prepare for a first pre-season under new boss Ange Postecoglou.
Speaking while on international duty with South Korea after a draw with El Salvador, Son responded to the speculation over his future and shut down the suggestion that a huge financial offer could tempt him to become the latest high-profile player to join a Saudi club.
“I have many things to do in the Premier League,” Son said.
“Money doesn’t matter to me now, and the pride of playing football, to play in my favourite league is important. I’ll prepare well when I’m back to Spurs.”
