Micky van de Ven has proven to be a fantastic acquisition for Spurs under Ange Postecoglou this summer.
In spite of interest from various European teams, Micky van de Ven stated there was only one specific reason why he decided to sign with Tottenham this summer. Alongside Cristian Romero, the Netherlands international has fit in well with Ange Postecoglou’s squad since making his senior debut for his nation earlier this month. The defender scored his first club goal against Luton Town just before the October international break.
Van de Ven scored the game-winning goal early in the second half as Spurs were down to 10 men, then he assisted in keeping the scoreless, earning him the title of player of the match. In an interview with TNT Sport following the game, he discussed scoring his first goal for Spurs and the insightful pregame talk he had with club captain Son Heung-min.
“Incredible match, I think we showed a great mentality as a team and I am really happy to score my first goal in the Premier League and for Tottenham and the clean sheet is the best for defenders,” he stated. “I stood back because I knew Maddison likes the cutback, and he played it perfectly to my left, and I tapped it.
“It was funny because when we were in the bus and coming to the stadium, Sonny told me ‘we’re going to make your first goal today’ and I said maybe who knows and I scored my first goal, so perfect.” While his offensive contribution was timely, it has been his defensive prowess that has many people in awe. Postecoglou’s preference for using a high line makes his rapid recovery pace an ideal weapon.
Liverpool and Bayern Munich were both interested in signing van de Ven before the Lilywhites announced the £43 million deal was finalized. However, he ultimately made the decision to leave Wolfsburg for Spurs, and his primary motivation has since been made public.
In a recent interview, he explained, “Because of the good talks with Spurs.” “I really value what the manager has to say,”At my age, playing frequently is crucial, and I felt the best with the Spurs. Along with creating an impression with his own performances, van de Ven has also helped Romero adjust to his new role as a member of the leadership team at Tottenham after talkSPORT analyst Darren Ambrose made a significant disclosure regarding the 22-year-old.
