Medical update emerges: BBC journalist shares ‘ridiculous’ Ethan Ampadu verdict
BBC Wales’ Rob Phillips has described Ethan Ampadu as “ridiculous” ahead of the Chelsea defender’s reported move to Leeds United.
Ampadu, 22, is set to complete his medical and sign a deal to make him a new Leeds player on 18 July, as per Standard Sport correspondent Nizaar Kinsella via Twitter.
And Phillips has shared his exciting opinion on Wales international Ampadu ahead of the move.
“From the moment he stepped onto the pitch as a Wales player, there was great excitement,” the journalist told West Yorkshire Sport Daily, via BBC Sounds.
“His maturity is far beyond his years, it is ridiculous, 40 odd caps and he is only 22. I think it will be a surprise to many Wales fans if he doesn’t hit the century mark.”
“Some Wales fans are disappointed he is not going to the Premier League, from Chelsea to another Premier League club.”
This could very well turn out to be a fantastic signing for the Whites.
Phillips is spot on and it is simply incredible that at the age of 22, Ampadu has already made over 40 appearances for his nation. This level of experience combined with his youth makes him a very exciting prospect for Leeds.
As well as his experience internationally he has made 60 top-flight appearances in Italy having spent the past two seasons with Venzia FC in the Serie A.
Leeds’ defence was poor last season and one of the key reasons why the club were relegated from the Premier League and the signing of Ampadu is exactly what they need. Throughout his career, he has operated at centre-back, on the right of a back-four or in defensive midfield.
The versatility he will bring to Leeds’ back-line could be exactly what the club need to get them promoted the first time of asking
