McAvennie savages new boy Kuhn – ‘what are you doing?’

Frank McAvennie has criticized Nicolas Kuhn, the new Celtic signing, and the team’s other wingers for not being more innovative in wide areas.

Speaking only to Football Insider, the former Scotland and Celtic striker maintained that the Hoops aren’t playing quickly enough—rather, they’re just “passing it backwards and sideways” in hazardous situations.

Wingers such Luis Palma, Hyun-jun Yang, and Daizen Maeda are part of Brendan Rodgers’ team; Kuhn joined to reinforce the ranks during the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old German signed a five-and-a-half-year contract at Parkhead after moving from Rapid Vienna.

In January, 6′ 3″ striker Adam Idah also joined Celtic, giving the Hoops a focal point for their assaults as Kyogo Furuhashi has been playing a deeper role lately.

Celtic must play like Man City, says McAvennie

McAvennie, on the other hand, is unimpressed with the Hoops’ usage of Idah and places the fault on the wings.

“It feels like Celtic have about 17 or 18 wingers, but none of them can get to the byline and cross the ball,” he said to Football Insider.

“Kuhn, the new boy, came in last week, but he just passed it backwards.”

“I wonder, ‘What are you doing?'”

“There’s no denying his talent. However, I could get the ball and pass backwards on my own.

“You cannot simply wait for anything to happen; you must take action.
