“Long negotiations with Tottenham”, “…agreement between clubs” – Romano shares update on 26-yr-old

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon’s move to Real Sociedad has collapsed.

Tottenham and the Spanish club engaged in “long negotiations,” but were unable to come to an agreement.

Instead, Sociedad and Arsenal have reached an agreement for their Scottish fullback Kieran Tierney, who will arrive in Spain tomorrow for his medical.

The Spanish team is reportedly interested in signing the former Real Madrid player, but negotiations with Daniel Levy are proving challenging.

Romano shared the update on X:

“After Tierney’s move to Real Sociedad, Reguilon deal collapses. Despite long negotiations with Tottenham for their target there was no agreement between clubs.“

Tierney will travel to Spain tomorrow [Saturday] in order to undergo medical and sign at Real Sociedad.”

 

Tottenham, however, is unaffected by the transfer meltdown because they have enough money right now because to the sale of Harry Kane. However, Spurs do need to cut their squad since Ange Postecoglou has a growing list of players who are no longer part of his plans.

Spurs have done well in the transfer incomings but have struggled mightily in the deadwood removal.

Hugo Lloris, Eric Dier, Giovani Lo Celso, Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga, and others are just a few of the many players that Tottenham are actively trying to sell or loan out.

However, it has been said that Tottenham will prioritize their outgoings before adding any new players. For Spurs to successfully close the transfer window, they still need to sign a striker and a defender, at the very least. Whether they can do both before the deadline is an open question.

Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham, thinks it is pointless to compare Richarlison to Harry Kane, the player he is supposed to be supplanting in the center of the attack.

Richarlison now has the responsibility of leading the line for Tottenham after Kane left for German champions Bayern Munich in a £100 million transfer a fortnight ago.

There have been concerns raised about the Brazilian No. 9’s ability to successfully replace Kane’s shoes in the long run after his scoreless first two games of the season.

But in the eyes of his management, Kane has left and is ‘no longer relevant’ to Tottenham.

I don’t think there is that much weight to bear there. Postecoglou told reporters on Friday that this football team ultimately needs to evolve.

“I believe everyone at the club has accepted Harry’s departure.” He’s moved on to a new challenge, and I have no doubt that he will succeed there. We now face a struggle of our own.

“I don’t believe it serves any purpose to compare yourself to something that is no longer current or relevant.”

It would be different if it came after a prosperous period, the speaker said.

Richarlison has found life tough since pitching up at Tottenham in a £60m move back in 2022.

But with Kane now gone the onus is on him to replace the Englishman’s goals – something Postecoglou believes will come given his attitude in training.

Against Manchester United last time out, when Tottenham won 2-0, it was, however, a tough afternoon for the Brazilian.

Richarlison was one of two outfield Tottenham players in the second half not to have a single shot at goal. The other was new centre back signing Micky van de Ven.

He also failed to win any of his five aerial duels and had the second-lowest pass accuracy on the team with 64 per cent, behind only Dejan Kulusevski’s 58 per cent.
