Leeds United on verge of two new signings with medical booked for Lewis Pirie
Leeds United are not only on the verge of signing Aberdeen’s Lewis Pirie but they are also closing in on a move for Hamilton’s Joshua McDonald, according to AberdeenLive.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday (11 July) that Dons striker Pirie, 16, will undergo a medical in West Yorkshire in the next 24 hours after a £200,000 deal was agreed between the Scottish Premiership side and the Whites.
AberdeenLive added on Tuesday that English sides are currently raiding Scottish for “hot young talent” and it is understood that Hamilton midfielder McDonald, 16, is also on the cusp of a move to Elland Road.
Double swoop
Leeds might not have a wealth of transfer funds to spend this summer.
It seems as though the bulk of outgoing players will be leaving Elland Road on loan, which frees up their wages and may also bring in some loan fees.
However, the rest of the money Leeds have to spend will have to be coughed up by the 49ers, used from parachute payments or brought in from the wages that are being saved.
Spending £200,000 on Pirie is nothing, really. His wages won’t be too much either.
The young striker in hot property in Scotland so Leeds fans should be excited by his arrival.
It remains to be seen how much McDonald will cost but as he’s arriving from Scottish League One side Hamilton, it’s likely to be a lot less.
It’s next to nothing and those deals will be getting done by those who are maybe away from the bulk of the main first-team business at Elland Road.
Some fans seem to worry about that, demanding first-team signings when youngsters are being brought in instead.
We wouldn’t have Crysencio Summerville, Joe Gelhardt, Darko Gyabi, Sonny Perkins, Cody Drameh or Sam Greenwood if we had that approach to transfers and they all look set to be key players next season at Elland Road.
