Lee Dixon says ‘maverick’ Tottenham player can win games on his own

Richarlison, a forward for Tottenham Hotspur, has the potential to be virtually unplayable at his best, according to Lee Dixon.

Following the return of the Premier League, Dixon was interviewed on The 2 Robbies Podcast.

The team of Ange Postecoglou waited until the very end to defeat Sheffield United and secure three points.

The home crowd, in contrast to previous managers, never lost hope in their team.

Despite Sheffield United’s tenacious defending, there was a sense that the game was doomed to one outcome when the board went up with 12 minutes remaining.

Postecoglou changed the game late by bringing in Richarlison and newly acquired Brennan Johnson.

The Brazilian was crucial, aiding Dejan Kulusevski for a late victory before nodding in an Ivan Perisic corner.

Richarlison can win games for Tottenham, according to Lee Dixon, but he needs to perform at those levels more frequently.

Since leaving Everton, the 26-year-old has been too unreliable, but games like yesterday are precisely why they signed him.

Dixon impressed with Tottenham forward Richarlison

When asked about the Brazilian center-forward, Dixon responded, “He’s returned to the team, and at his best he’s practically unplayable.

He is Brazil’s number nine and plays up front, so he can’t be all that horrible, right? However, because of his emotion, you don’t get to see him at his best enough.

You’ve been a part of teams where there was a bit of a maverick who you thought could win us any game we played.

But after that, for about 75% of the games he participates in, you kind of look at him and think, ‘He’s a burden or he’s not quite doing enough.

“So, I don’t think you get 25% out of him; I think he’s one of them.

“You have to be churning goals out week in and week out to be in the position where he is right now as Tottenham’s number nine replacing Harry Kane.”

Many Tottenham supporters will concur with Dixon that Richarlison has rarely displayed his greatest work.

In a trying period for his career, he has the full backing of his teammates, with Son Heung-min ensuring he received full applause from the audience at the end of the game.

Dejan Kulusevski acknowledged that he enjoyed partnering with Richarlison, so it will be intriguing to see if he earns a start against Arsenal the following Saturday.
