latest Leeds transfer mission could be huge for 19-year-old star – opinion
An anonymous midfielder with international experience is reportedly wanted by Leeds United this summer.
According to writer Graham Smyth of the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds is determined to strengthen their alternatives in the middle of the field with a player who boasts exceptional quality.
Although the target’s name has not been confirmed, Smyth claims that he is a player with international experience, which may make for an interesting addition.
Given the departure of Weston McKennie, the impending departure of Marc Roca, the expiration of Adam Forshaw’s contract, and the high level of interest in Tyler Adams, the midfield is perhaps the position that needs the greatest bolstering this summer.
Only three talented young men—Darko Gyabi, Lewis Bate, and Archie Gray—can Leeds currently count on being present for the Championship opener against Cardiff City.
Leeds latest transfer link could be huge for Gyabi development
This season, all three of those players have been mentioned as having the ability to make an impact on the first team, but Gyabi in particular seems like he’ll take the lead.
In the first half of Daniel Farke’s first friendly match as manager against Manchester United, Gyabi was one of Leeds’ better players, attempting to pick up the ball from the defense and develop through midfield.
He occasionally showed exceptional situational awareness and was able to avoid danger, but he was also occasionally choked by Man United’s push.
Gyabi will learn as he develops more and more how to get better at that, and an experienced international midfielder to learn off could be exactly what he needs to accelerate that.
Furthermore, Gyabi wouldn’t have to constantly retrieve the ball from the defense if Leeds were able to sign this undisclosed target and pair him with him.
He was the only Leeds midfielder capable of doing this against Manchester United, which at times left him exposed.
With that in mind, this may be the ideal signing to aid Gyabi as well as Farke in putting his system into practice.
