JUST IN: James Madison taunts Kyle Filipowski with a sign “Kyle, why are you stumbling?”
Despite the usual caution underdogs exercise to avoid providing motivation to their opponents before postseason contests, Duke the Dog from James Madison University still targeted Kyle Filipowski during their NCAA Tournament game against Duke.
The mascot unfurled a sign with the message “Kyle, why are you stumbling?” featuring Filipowski’s number, which gained visibility during the CBS broadcast of the second-round March Madness game.
The sign is alluding to a tripping incident during the Duke vs. UNC rivalry game on March 9, which Filipowski was involved in.

During that game, it seemed that Filipowski intentionally tripped Harrison Ingram as the UNC wing advanced up the court. The footage revealed Filipowski looking back at Ingram before extending his leg to trip him.
Filipowski wasn’t penalized for the action and maintained after the game that he didn’t deliberately trip his opponent. “I was simply getting up,” Filipowski stated. “My foot slipped. I didn’t intend to catch him. That’s all I can say.”
