‘It’s a huge difference’: Tottenham told dropping one player has infinitely improved them –

A Tottenham player who Ange Postecoglou immediately benched has been informed that Spurs’ current success is largely due to his absence.

Spurs have a higher level of confidence going into the north London derby next Saturday since they are unbeaten through their first five Premier League matches of the season.

Since the appointment of new manager Postecoglou, Spurs have experienced an immediate turnaround. The Australian has hit all the right notes in his public appearances, and his remarks to the players during a private meeting appear to have been well received.

Without Harry Kane spearheading the offense, many people thought Tottenham would find it difficult to improve on their poor eighth-place finish from the previous season.

Spurs have prospered without their all-time leading scorer, though, and are now playing an appealing brand of football once more. Although the season is still young, Tottenham does seem like a squad that will contend for a spot in the Champions League.

Along with changing the system and giving the players more freedom, Postecoglou has also made changes to the personnel.

The strongest eleven has been omitted, and regular starts like Eric Dier, Ben Davies, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg have been replaced. The latter, who is 28 years old, is currently under sharp criticism from analyst Craig Burley.

Hojbjerg just “runs around a lot” and “passes it sideways”

The former Chelsea midfielder and Scotland international claimed on ESPN FC that Hojbjerg’s lack of dynamism was what was holding Spurs behind.

Burley alleged that Hojbjerg only moves around and discards things. Some could call that keeping things neat and orderly, but in Burley’s opinion, it was doing Spurs absolutely no favors.

Burley admitted, “I’ve never been a big Hojbjerg fan. “I just can’t.

“I believe he moves about a lot, throws the ball diagonally, and afterwards engaged in play with [Oliver] Skipp.

“I believe the manager’s desire for them to play, combined with the personnel shift, particularly in midfield with the inclusion of Maddison… Just a significant change, really.

Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr have been rapidly established by Postecoglou as his preferred midfield duo. The pair are having a beneficial impact on the game at both ends of the pitch after a string of all-action performances.

Hojbjerg will be at most the fourth choice where he once was the first, with Rodrigo Bentancur also expected to enter the picture later in 2023 once he is fully recovered from ACL surgery.
