The Roque and Spurs claims followed rumors that Athletico PR was growing impatient with Barca.
They appeared to be awaiting the La Liga team’s delivery of the paperwork required to complete the deal.
The MD report also stated that “otherwise, they will start to consider other proposals.”
Tottenham, along with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, ‘do not stop calling’ about a move for Roque, according to reports.
Spurs’ chances of making a last-minute move, though, have now been dashed.
On Twitter, Fabrizio Romano announced that Roque will be joining Barca, adding, “here we go.”
Athletico’s ultimatum appears to have been heeded, as the signing is almost complete.
The Roque and Spurs reports came in wake of speculation claiming Athletico PR were losing patience with Barca.
They were apparently waiting for the La Liga side to send over the documents needed to complete the transfer.

Apparently, Tottenham ‘do not stop calling’ over a move for Roque, alongside Man United and Paris Saint-Germain.
However, any hopes Spurs may have had of making a late swoop have now been thwarted.

They appear to have heeded Athletico’s ultimatum and the signing is nearing its completion.
As per MD, Barca and Athletico have reportedly agreed a move worth around €55m (£47m) in total.
Our view
Although the news is bad for Tottenham, it is not particularly shocking.
Roque appeared to be leaning toward joining Barca, who had been in the driver’s seat for his acquisition.
Spurs had some hope that there may be a few hiccups near the end, but the possibilities were always limited.
Tottenham would have acquired an exceptional talent if they had been successful in signing Roque.
He has already made 66 senior competitive games with Athletico, scoring 22 goals and dishing out 9 assists.
The ‘exceptional’ attacker has scored six goals in 11 outings for Brazil’s Under-20 team.
