Guglielmo Vicario, the goalkeeper for Tottenham Hotspur, responded to Callum Wilson on social media after the Newcastle striker accused him of being impolite during yesterday’s match between the two consistent teams.
Tottenham had a lot to prove when they hosted the Magpies yesterday afternoon, especially considering the humiliating 6-1 loss they suffered at the hands of Newcastle last season.
Since that April loss, a lot has happened, with Spurs revitalized under new manager Ange Postecoglou. Hugo Lloris’ departure and the ascent to the top of North London’s goalkeeping rankings by Guglielmo Vicario represent one of the major shifts in the position.
After going five games without a victory, the Lilywhites got their retribution yesterday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a commanding 4-1 victory.
Vicario has his say on Callum Wilson incident
After saving one of Callum Wilson’s headers during the match, Vicario made fun of the England international, which inflamed Callum Wilson’s feelings toward Wilson. The two also became irate after the game.
In his post-match interview with Sky Sports, Wilson stated: “The goalie starts making faces and playing around for the header.” I reasoned that it was just a disrespectful act.
In response, Vicario posted a picture of the altercation on Instagram along with the statement, “Respect is given… to everyone that respects me!”
Wilson’s highly publicized criticism of the Spurs striker from the previous season was perfectly addressed by the game’s two goals, which Richardson coincidentally scored (Footballer’s Football Podcast).
Callum Wilson’s treatment of Richardson makes it impossible for him to talk about lacking respect. Wilson only reacted because his team was losing the way they were because of Vicario’s extremely insignificant actions.
Though maybe Wilson said something to Vicario during the game that we missed, I’m curious about what Wilson did to him to demonstrate his lack of respect.
