Conor Gallagher, who plays a vital position in Mauricio Pochettino’s setup, has been heavily linked to leaving Chelsea for some time now.
The chances of Tottenham Hotspur acquiring Conor Gallagher have been severely damaged. The 23-year-old midfielder’s future at Chelsea is currently in doubt as Todd Boehly looks to raise money following his over £1 billion in new player purchases since May 2022.
Gallagher is a very profitable asset because, as a graduate of the Cobham Academy, any money obtained from a possible exit would be recorded as “pure profit” on the Blues’ books. As far as football.london is aware, Chelsea actively attempted to sell him at this same time last year.
Then, in the summer, Ange Postecoglou, a rumored huge fan of Gallagher, was among the Premier League teams vying for the player’s signing, including the Spurs. The England international has drawn interest from West Ham and Newcastle United as well.
There are rumors that Liverpool was in the running to get him earlier in the transfer window, but that didn’t happen because Jurgen Klopp ended up signing Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. Even though Gallagher’s west London contract is expiring in just 18 months, the CIES Football Observatory still values him at an astounding €60 million (£51.4 million).
Now that Chelsea is trying to stay in compliance with Financial Fair Play and Profit and Sustainability regulations, a £51.4 million windfall would be greatly appreciated. One problem exists, though: if the England international was moved off to Tottenham, fans would take great exception to his leaving.
Boehly might not even have to decide on that, though, as William Gallas thinks Gallagher would oppose a relocation to north London. The Frenchman questioned why the Lilywhites would require a new midfielder in an interview with Gambling Zone.
“Gallagher wouldn’t want to go to Spurs – he’s a Chelsea boy,” stated Gallas. Why would they wish to purchase additional midfield players? They have adequate talented midfield players.
“With Son out for this month, they needed a winger, but Werner wasn’t the best player they could have recruited. Werner is not a wise addition. He didn’t do enough for Chelsea while he was there.
Although he is a speedy player, Dalot was marking him very well on Sunday when they played. This made it a challenging challenge for him. He attempted to outpace him in speed, but Dalot is a quick player as well, so I don’t think he’s a wise addition.
“He can help the team but he’s only on loan, so he needs to hit the ground running, but I don’t think he’ll score many goals in six months so I don’t think he’s a good signing.”
The ‘Chelsea lad’ would obstruct Boehly’s plans, even if he wanted to sell Gallagher to Spurs in order to inject some healthy cash.
