Fourth and fifth Tottenham signings identified by Fabrizo Romano as Van de Ven price hike sees Postecoglou revert to ‘super appreciated’ star

Tottenham are ready to abandon their quest to sign Micky van de Ven after a sudden and dramatic price hike from Wolfsburg persuaded the club to pursue another “super appreciated” target instead.

Tottenham has entered a new era, and Ange Postecoglou wants to leave his stamp in the N7. And the 57-year-old Australian will want to see a noticeable improvement at the club after the disappointment of finishing a dismal eighth in the season just past.

Postecoglou has already approved three agreements to get things started. Dejan Kulusevski’s permanent signing was expedited following a fruitful 18-month loan to get things started.

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario was acquired shortly after that in a €17 million deal with Empoli. And their summer spending has soared toward the £90 million milestone with the acquisition of James Maddison from Leicester for £40 million.

However, Spurs and Postecoglou are far from finished.

To that end, a deal for former Israel winger Manor Soloman has been given the Here We Go treatment by Fabrizio Roamno.

However, the Spurs manager wants to bolster his back line and is also looking to add a new central defensive player.

As a result, discussions about Edmond Tapsoba and Van de Ven have been going on for a while.

Tapsoba has allegedly long been Tottenham’s #1 target. The Burkino Faso international is highly regarded by Bayer Leverkusen, but their €50 million (£43 million) valuation has always seemed excessive.

As a result, Spurs have intensified their efforts in recent weeks to convince Dutchman Van de Ven to move to north London.

Bundesliga data from the previous season show that the Wolfsburg defense was the fastest player around.

Van de Ven price hike dissuades Levy; Tapsoba back on Tottenham radar

Additionally, the player’s agent has stated that a transfer to Tottenham would be of interest. As a result, it appeared that closing the sale was just a matter of when, not if.

Wolfsburger Allgemeine claims that the Bundesliga club has since increased the price for the 22-year-old in response to Tottenham’s interest.

Their initial claims of €35 million (£30 million) have already been increased to €45 million (£38 million).

According to recent reports, Daniel Levy is now more likely to pursue a move for Tapsoba given the associated expenditures.

The 24-year-old is also significantly more experienced, while being even more expensive at £43 million.

Furthermore, with big-game European experience to his name  – something that Van de Ven lacks – they appear ready to turn their focus back towards the Levekusen star.

And according to Alasdair Gold, speaking on Football.London, Spurs believe Tapsoba is more a ‘readymade option’ this summer.

Tapsoba ‘super appreciated’ by Tottenham

Romano explained to Caught Offside why they will choose which of the pair to pursue within the coming week as a further update on the pursuit.

The following days will be crucial for Tottenham and their search for a new center-back, he added.

“I’m told Tapsoba is still the number one objective, and he’s always been greatly admired. Spurs still want Tapsoba, but the transaction is contingent on Bayer Leverkusen’s decision over the ultimate price.

They continue to bargain for Van de Ven as well. Because in the end, the cost will determine whether they are successful in acquiring a new center-back.

Is Spurs the appropriate place for Ange Postecoglou? Is the decision by Spurs to hire Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou the best one for all parties?
Tapsoba, who is 6 feet 4 inches tall, has played more over 100 times for Leverkusen. The center-half has 35 international appearances under his belt and one goal.

He is one of the fastest defenders available, and Postecoglou would benefit greatly from his passing, aerial skill, and game reading.
