Fabrizio Romano warns expected Tottenham transfer might not happen thanks to Postecoglou

Fabrizio Romano claims that Ange Postecoglou may prevent a highly publicized Tottenham transfer from happening as planned in January.

Giovani Lo Celso’s summer exits were completely barred by Spurs. The 27-year-old Argentine midfielder, who had been on loan to Villarreal for the previous 18 months, was kept in north London for the upcoming season.

According to Estadio Deportivo Lo Celso was promised a significant position in the first team by Postecoglou. However, Lo Celso might not have anticipated receiving the routine minutes.

Indeed, Lo Celso has received very little attention as Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr rapidly became the preferred midfield duo. Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are further obstacles standing between Lo Celso and playing time on the field.

Lo Celso has thus far only served as a substitute once in the Premier League this season. Although he was hooked at halftime in the unfortunate League Cup second round match against Fulham, he did start.

The media has been rife with rumors that a January departure is imminent. There have been rumors of a trip back to Spain with either Barcelona or Real Betis.

However, in response to the Lo Celso rumors, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reduced speculation that Lo Celso is unquestionably leaving.

Romano claimed Postecoglou was a key reason Lo Celso didn’t leave during the summer via Caught Offside. An evacuation through a winter window might also be averted if the Australian gets his desire.

“Giovani Lo Celso – Ange Postecoglou wanted to keep Lo Celso at the Tottenham, so I’d wait before mentioning any January move for Gio,” emphasized Romano.

“For sure, that may be a possibility if he decides not to play in the upcoming weeks and months. But no decision has yet been made.

The Spurs’ deal with Lo Celso isn’t up until the summer of 2025. Tottenham is therefore not under any need to sell in 2024.
