Sky Sports claimed yesterday afternoon that Spurs were lining up deals for a number of wide forwards before making a final decision on who to sign.

Aside from Johnson, the Lilywhites were said to be interested in Barcelona’s Ansu Fati and PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko.

Fati, on the other hand, no longer appears to be a possibility for Tottenham, with rumors in the last few hours claiming that the forward is likely to join Brighton on a season-long loan (Daily Mail).

Spurs have contingency plans just in case

Romano has now told Kick Streaming (30/08/23) that Johnson remains Tottenham’s top objective, with Ange Posteocoglou personally approving his signing.

However, the journalist claimed that if a deal for the 22-year-old cannot be reached, the North London club will consider other possibilities.

Tottenham’s alternatives for Johnson look to be PSV’s Bakayoko and Porto’s Pepe, but I fully anticipate the club to complete a deal for the Wales international before the transfer window closes, especially if Forest maintain their £50m value.

Earlier on Wednesday, Fati—who was once predicted to succeed Lionel Messi at Camp Nou—was mentioned in connection with a loan move to Tottenham.

But with manager Roberto De Zerbi reportedly playing a significant role in the negotiations, the 20-year-old attacker may now sign with the Seagulls.

With only 47 minutes of LaLiga involvement this season, Fati has lost favor with Xavi at Barca.

According to rumors, Barcelona demands that any team that signs Fati pay his entire salary.

Tuesday saw Spurs enter the race to sign Fati as Nottingham Forest increased their demand for top target Brennan Johnson to £50 million. Additionally, it was said that Chelsea had been promised Fati.

Brighton, on the other hand, brings something to the table this season that neither Spurs nor Chelsea can: European football.

Postecoglou claimed that seeing other players in action was the main factor in his choice of Fulham. The “discovery stage” is what he dubbed it.

Furthermore, even at this point of the game, we are all conditioned to understand that players who have traveled the world for preseason friendly when they should be improving their fitness cannot be expected to play three times per week.
