Fabrizio Romano: Tottenham ‘considering’ late swoop to sign 24-year-old star.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur are ‘considering’ a move for Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly in the last hours of the transfer window.

The Englishman has appeared on the North London club’s radar. As of now, Spurs are yet to make a formal offer to sign the Cherries’ centre-back.

Tottenham must release some unwanted players before they can formalize their interest in the 24-year-old.

The Spurs have no time to waste, as Andoni Iraola’s team will need to find a replacement for Kelly if he does go. To that purpose, the North London club could include outcast Eric Dier in a potential transfer.

The former Sporting CP star does not appear to be in Ange Postecoglou’s plans for the upcoming season. Dier has yet to play for Tottenham this season and has been made available for trade, so offering him to Bournemouth in exchange for Kelly could benefit all parties.

Will Spurs sign Kelly?

Kelly joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in the summer of 2019. The defender has a lot of playing experience.

In English football’s second division. The Premier League, on the other hand, is a completely different level of competition.

Kelly, on the other hand, demonstrated his ability in the English Premier League last season. The centre-back’s season was plagued by injury, but he still started 23 league games as the Cherries avoided relegation. The England Under-21 international can also play on the left side of the defense.

Under Postecoglou, Tottenham has depended on the duo of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. Davinson Sanchez has also been given significant playing time, though the Colombian international is expected to leave if a reasonable offer comes in.

Signing Kelly would arguably not scream ambition from Tottenham. However, the defender possesses the characteristics to be a capable backup option for the North London club.

It will be intriguing to see whether a trade happens this late in the window, but Kelly might be a wise long-term addition for Tottenham.
