Fabrizio Romano says that former Spurs and Everton players will be “Influential” additions for Leeds

Following the arrival of Ethan Ampadu, Leeds United intends to continue its incoming transfer activity, with new technical director Gretar Steinsson expected to play a significant role in the procedure, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The day after Steinsson was appointed to help cover the position left vacant by Victor Orta’s departure from the team last season, Welsh international Ampadu, 22, joined from Chelsea for an initial £7 million last week (19 July).

There is still a lot of business to be done before the transfer window ends, but the former Icelandic national team member is now expected to be “influential” at Elland Road.

Given that Gretar Steinsson is the new director, Romano informed GIVEMESPORT of upcoming business: “Yeah, I’m sure, too. Steinsson will be one of the guys who gets to be prominent at the club and joins after his experiences at Everton and Tottenham, so they will have someone else who’s going to help bring in new players.

Of course, there are plans to include more players. When the Ampadu deal closes, the sell-on provision for Chelsea will surely be a part of it.

The right people are currently in the right positions for Leeds United, but the summer is still young and only one signing has been made.

Exits are still happening, as Max Wober is about to follow in the footsteps of recent signings Brenden Aaronson, Marc Roca, and Rasmus Kristensen in taking advantage of loan-out clauses in their contracts after being demoted.

The Whites wish to keep important players like Willy Gnonto and Tyler Adams at the club, but Wober was also supposed to stay until he unexpectedly missed the 2-0 loss to Monaco on Saturday night (22 July), as he is now moving on to Borussia Monchengladbach [The Athletic, 23 July].

Steinsson will therefore need to get underway quickly, be prepared to communicate with Daniel Farke and Nick Hammond, start filling in the holes created by individuals who have already departed, and organize backup plans in case others decide to leave.

They have a manager who knows how to win in the Championship in the German former Norwich manager, but he will need the right players to accomplish it with.

The start of the league season on August 6 when Cardiff City visits Elland Road is now less than a fortnight away, so Steinsson, Farke, and the rest of the recruitment team have their job cut out for them until the transfer window opens on September 1.
