Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea are about to miss out on ‘great talent’ who really wanted to join them
He took to Twitter to state that Feyenoord and Ajax are both lining up a deal for the U21 star that the Blues have previously pushed hard for.
It was during Todd Boehly’s first transfer window in charge that the club made a big effort to sign Zakharyan.
The attacking midfielder has already impressed in his young career, previously being described as a ‘great talent’.
However, issues off the pitch in Russia saw them not able to complete a deal, although it was acknowledged that they would remain interested as time goes on.
The player himself was completely sold on a move to Stamford Bridge too, making it known on multiple occasions that he was excited by the prospect of the switch.
Chelsea to miss out on Zakharyan
He even joked that he was ready to feature alongside Joao Felix when the Portugal international was on loan here. However, he has now returned to Atletico Madrid after his temporary switch was not made permanent or even extended.
Despite both sides of the deal being very interested in making it happen, Romano has now claimed that a move to the Netherlands is now looking more likely.
He said: “Arsen Zakharyan, on Feyenoord list for this summer. He’s one of players being considered with Feyenoord pushing on that deal.
“Zakharyan, out of contract in 2024 and big opportunity on the market after Chelsea deal collapsed one year ago. Also Ajax are monitoring Arsen.”
While it looks as if this move may get away from the Blues, they are still keen to add a number of young stars to their ranks. This is currently being led by their efforts to sign Angelo Gabriel from Brazil, who is reportedly set to be announced today.
