Fabrizio Romano: Club’s ‘immovable’ player is “also” in talks to join Tottenham this summer

Spurs: Tapsoba “in talks” to join Tottenham

The Burkina Faso international is undroppable for Xabi Alonso.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur are “also” in serious talks to sign Bayer Leverkusen striker Edmond Tapsoba as they pursue Micky van de Ven of Wolfsburg.

This summer, who are Spurs bringing in?

To the joy of their new manager Ange Postecoglou, the north Londoners have already signed three key players: Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli, James Maddison from Leicester City, and Dejan Kulusevski on a long-term contract from Juventus.

The trio will help Spurs in their efforts to make Postecoglou’s tenure successful and, possibly, battle their way back into European soccer. The last time the Lilywhites won a significant prize was in the League Cup final in 2008, when they defeated Chelsea.

Postecoglou lauded the additions of Maddison and Vicario, saying that they have the ideal mindset for the Tottenham club he is aiming to assemble.

“It’s not just about the talent they bring as footballers,” said Postecoglou (Spurs official via football.london).

“It’s what they bring as people as well because we are going to play football that requires a certain type of personality and character.

“Both those guys have got it in abundance. I could hear it in their voices when I spoke to them. I had a couple of chats with both of them before we signed them and I knew that they were the right types to bring into the dressing room.”

Spurs are also set to sign Manor Solomon on a free transfer, hijacking Fulham in the process, with Postecoglou’s side now chasing a star centre-back to shore up their leaky defence. Tottenham conceded more top flight goals than any other side above Bournemouth in 15th last season, numbers which are clearly not good enough for an elite side. Sharing a message on Spurs’ hunt for new defenders, reliable transfer reporter has some news on their links to Tapsoba, who is believed to be of interest.

Romano says that, as well as Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven, the Burkina Faso international is “also” in talks to join Tottenham this summer.

Despite reports that van de Ven has already agreed a five-year contract, the race is clearly an open once going by this update.

Edmond Tapsoba: who is he?

The 24-year-old was a mainstay in Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen team last season and appeared unstoppable; according to WhoScored, only goalie Lukas Hradecky played more minutes in the German top division than the center-back.

The Bundesliga website even compared him to former Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng after calling him “top quality” by the media.

The website stated:

“The great Bayern Munich defender was as cool and collected as it gets both on the ball and in the tackle. He was also renowned for his accurate long passing, which helped the record champions launch several offenses throughout his 364 appearances for the Bavarian giants over the course of 11 seasons. Similar characteristics are seen in Tapsoba, who is frequently referred to as a defensive playmaker because of his propensity to initiate offensive thrusts.
