England Rugby World Cup star ignores coach and involved in ‘angry’ moment with team-mate
England coaches were forced to intervene after a star threatened to push themselves too hard.
Coaches told England international Tom Curry to leave the team gym because he was working out too hard in preparation for his World Cup comeback. After receiving a red card for a high shot against Argentina, the Sale Sharks player was forced to watch the matches against Japan and Chile from the sidelines.
When England plays Samoa on October 7, curry is expected to be back in the lineup, which will be a big win for head coach Steve Borthwick. Given that he has been “overtraining,” he will need to reduce the 25-year-old’s excitement before the game.
Curry recently had to leave the gym because he wanted to work as hard as he could to get ready to rejoin the England team, according to scrum coach Tom Harrison. However, his way of thinking did result in a clash with Aled Walters, the strength and conditioning coach.
Tom is a special player, according to Harrison, who said that he has never encountered anyone who is as physically fit or as prepared to work hard and endure pain.
He just appears to be able to keep going and take it in stride. The other day, after finishing his reps during a conditioning exercise, Aled Walters yelled at him to “get out, get out.” And he simply kept running. He simply remained inside and continued to run. And when he ultimately made the decision that it was time for him to leave, he walked away from the drill, and Ellis Genge immediately started berating him for doing so! And you just seen him become quite irate over it!
He is in fantastic shape. He’s been quite smart. Sadly, he was suspended, but he did a fantastic job by refusing to say, “Oh, I’m suspended for these two games.” He said, “How can I help England win instead”.
And the work he did with the back rows to lend his expertise and wisdom to our team discussions, as well as the work he did to make training challenging for the players, was excellent.
In order to prepare for the Samoa game, Curry must tone down the intensity of his training. However, it is unclear whether Curry will do so or if he will continue to practice harder every day, possibly putting himself at risk for injury.
