Coventry City have been told they have an “exceptional” player on their hands after signing Yasin Ayari on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 19-year-old midfielder will spent the 2023/24 campaign with the Sky Blues after becoming the club’s 10th summer signing so far. Ayari joined Brighton in January from Swedish club AIK and made three Premier League appearances for the Seagulls last term.

Now he has been allowed to go out on loan for this season and will be hoping to make his mark in the Championship with Coventry. He follows in the footsteps of Sweden international teammate Viktor Gyokeres, who signed for the Sky Blues – initially on loan – from Brighton.

“We’re very pleased to welcome Yasin to Coventry City,” said Sky Blues manager Mark Robins. “He is a versatile player who can play across the midfield area, but predominantly central, and is technically adept too with pace and energy.

“He had an impressive spell at AIK in Sweden where he played a lot of games for his age and is highly thought of at Brighton, who signed him in January. We’d like to thank Brighton for allowing Yasin to join us on loan now and we look forward to working with him this season.”

Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi said: “It is important for Yasin to go out and play games on loan and of course we will keep an eye on his performances.”

Brighton fans have been reacting to news of the transfer on social media. Here’s what some of them had to say…

@PursuitOfTruthB: Exceptional signing for Coventry. Will be watching what happens very closely.

@seagull_rich: Honestly thought he’d feature for us this season. Very, very surprised we’ve let him go out on loan. A superb player. Tenacious and silky in equal measure. Honestly I’ve no doubt he’ll be great for you. Look after him.

@Nav_BHA: Coventry City fans, as you watch Yasin, you should see a dynamic, skilled young lad with a very high ceiling.

He thrived at AIK in Sweden, and we spent a shiny penny for him to join us. The only reason he’s not with us is that he lacks experience in the first team.

Good luck.

@CB_Seagull: Love an Albion and Cov link up. Take care of him lads.

@BHAFC_Danny: Should be excited about this one, very good player and high ceiling.

@W3Her: Good luck Yasin. Coventry have a class young player on their hands.
