Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has disclosed that Tottenham made a covert attempt to sign Giorgio Scalvini, a young Italian player.

He stated on KICK (via TBR) that the club asked questions about the defender but was turned off by Atalanta’s exorbitant demand.

Says he:

“The best Italian player for the U21 team is currently taking home the trophy. It’s Giorgio Scalvini here. Atalanta’s center-back is a highly skilled player who is not as well-known throughout Europe, but we know him well in Italy.

“A lot of teams are keeping an eye on him. I heard that last summer, Tottenham was thinking about making a move. He was one of the hidden players on their list, but they chose to pursue other options because Atalanta was demanding absurd amounts of money for Scalvini.”

The 19-year-old, who has made a name for himself in the first team of the Italian team, is regarded as one of the best young defenders in Serie A.

Tottenham is in dire need of more defensive players. In the summer, they signed Micky van de Ven, who rose to prominence as one of their best players right away.

Spurs are now short at the back, with Dier linked to leaving and the Dutch defender expected to be out until at least January. They were also supposed to sign another excellent defender in the summer, but they were unable to get rid of the deadwood in time. As a result, they will be looking to add another defender in the upcoming transfer window.

Given Sarr’s consistency, some could even contend that Rodrigo Bentancur is not a lock to start in the starting eleven, even when he is well enough to play 90 minutes.

In the World Cup qualifying match on Sunday, the 21-year-old turned his club success into an international victory, leading Senegal to a decisive victory over South Sudan.
