Conor Gallagher ‘is attracting interest from Tottenham’ as Ange Postecoglou looks to reshape his midfield…

Conor Gallagher may be on the verge of moving from Chelsea to Tottenham this summer as the Blues attempt to cut their overstuffed roster, per reports.

Despite making an impression when on loan at Crystal Palace the season before under Patrick Vieira, the English midfielder at Chelsea struggled to get playing time last year.

Although he started eight of the final nine games of the Blues’ poor Premier League season and scored twice, Frank Lampard’s interim stint enhanced his standing in the team. However, his time at Stamford Bridge may be coming to an end.

There have been rumors that Ange Postecoglou’s arrival may cast Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s future in doubt, opening the door for a redesign in the park’s center.

Football London have reported that Spurs are keen on Gallagher, but they could find competition in Newcastle, who have long been linked with the English star.

Gallagher proved on a fruitful loan spell at Crystal Palace in 2021-22 that he is highly capable as a box-to-box midfielder, with his high energy and pressing crucial to Vieira’s team.

In that sense, he could prove a perfect candidate for Postecoglou’s new-look side, with the Australian set to mold Spurs to fit his dynamic and attacking outlook.

Gallagher could operate in front of a deeper-lying player and alongside a more attacking midfielder, which is similar to how Postecoglou liked to set his Celtic side up.

Another name that has been frequently linked with both Newcastle and Spurs is James Maddison, who could line up in the middle with Gallagher.

Reports have already begun to emerge that Gallagher could be one of the many players to fall victim of Mauricio Pochettino’s anticipated squad clear-out, after the Blues ranks became swollen following Todd Boehly’s £600m splurge.

Postecoglou is thought to have held a recruitment meeting with Daniel Levy at Spurs to discuss potential targets, with Gallagher’s name believed to be on a list along with a number of others.

Tottenham, who are searching for a Hugo Lloris replacement after their captain informed the team of his wish to go before the end of his contract in 2024, are also interested in Brentford’s David Raya.

Hojbjerg still has two years remaining on his existing deal at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium and faces a nervous wait to find out if his time in London will be brought to a premature end, according to The Sun.
