Confirmed: Norwegian defender wants to play for Leeds as footage emerges in last 24 hours
Norway under-19s captain Nikolai Hopland has revealed his intention to play for Leeds United one day in the future as footage has emerged.
The Scandinavian country is playing in the UEFA under-19 Euros and recently beat Greece 5-4 on 4 July.
Hopland, 18, despite being a centre-back, played his part in setting up a goal en-route to a nine-goal thriller victory for his country.
He said on the Norwegian TV channel NRK, “My dream is to play for Leeds United.”
Scouts present?
Leeds have made it a point to sign talented young players for their under-18s and under-21s teams in the past and they surely will be aware of the best sensations in the continent.
With the under-21 and under-19 EUROs both ongoing, it will be surprising if they do not have any representatives at both tournaments.
Such competitions make it easier for scouts to keep track of players they normally would not be able to as they wouldn’t be aware of the lower leagues in certain countries.
Of all clubs, Hopland’s mentioned Leeds so there could be a good chance that somebody in his family has supported the Whites throughout his early days.
Usually, teenagers from such countries speak about the big names like Real Madrid or Barcelona and name drop players they want to play with.
It remains to be seen if, in the coming years, the interest goes both ways as Leeds are always looking to add to their youth ranks.
