‘Can’t see it’ – Jermaine Jenas makes bet with Darren Bent about James Maddison
Jermaine Jenas and Darren Bent, both ex-players for Tottenham Hotspur, placed a wager against one another based on Martin Odegaard and James Maddison’s season-long performances.
Tottenham’s season has gotten off to a great start under new boss Ange Postecoglou. The Lilywhites have yet to lose in the Premier League, and after six games, they are now in the top four.
James Maddison has been at the center of that achievement. The £40 million transfer of the 26-year-old from Leicester City to Spurs this summer appears to have been a steal now.
After Harry Kane left the team, Maddison wore the recognizable number 10 shirt and now seems to be filling the gap left by the legendary forward. Maddison has already contributed to six goals this season (according to Transfermarkt), so she might put up significant numbers this year.
In the North London derby on Sunday, the England player provided two assists, both of which helped his captain Heung-min Son.
Can Maddison outperform Odegaard?
The strong rivalry between Spurs and Arsenal is here to stay, and talkSPORT hosts Darren Bent and Jermaine Jenas have reignited it by betting on Maddison and Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard’s offensive performances.
“I really like Odegaard, and I think he had an incredible season last year,” Jenas remarked. It will be interesting to see because those guys have a very specialized job that involves goals and assists.
You wouldn’t sit there and confidently predict that Odegaard will outscore Maddison this season in both goals and assists, in my opinion.
Then Arsenal supporter Bent adds that he would actually accept the wager. Although host Andy Goldstein initially proposes a £10,000 wager, the former players ultimately settle on something less risky for the cash account but more damaging to their pride: the loser of this wager must appear on the show and kiss the insignia on their opponent’s jersey.
“I can’t see it happening,” Jenas continued. I believe Maddison receives at least as much as Odegaard.
According to Transfermarkt, Odegaard presently has three goals and one assist for the year.
Due to the Champions League, Martin Odegaard will play in more games than Maddison this season, but if we are only discussing the Premier League, Maddison always prevails.
