West Ham United now in £26m transfer talks to sign striker Pedro
Alan Nixon claims that West Ham and Flamengo striker Pedro are in negotiations for a £26 million transfer before the deadline.
The Sun journalist claimed on his Patreon page that David Moyes is currently seeking to sign the 26-year-old with the “perfect” profile for this Hammers team in order to provide competition for Michail Antonio and compete on both the domestic and European fronts.
Mohammed Kudus has already signed a contract and will be arriving soon, but West Ham has already made moves to sign strikers, including long-time target Youssef En-Nesyri from Sevilla.
This summer, Gianluca Scamacca already went, and amid interest from Saudi Arabia, Michail Antonio has also been connected to a departure.
After selling the Italian to Atalanta and Declan Rice to Arsenal for a club-record sum, West Ham still has money to spend.
The conclusion of the transfer window has already helped to alleviate a lot of the frustration from the summer, with the exciting acquisition of Kudus in the face of intense competition being a standout.
The summer would be considered successful overall if a new striker was added before the deadline, especially if a new left-back was also added.
With 94 goals in 197 games since he returned from a brief stint with Fiorentina three years ago, Pedro has a stellar scoring record with Flamengo.
Despite seemingly wanting to move on, Antonio has started the new season on fire, scoring in each of the last two 3-1 victory over Chelsea and Brighton, respectively.
Even with Kudus’ ability to play up front, Moyes would be lacking in attack if he were to sustain an injury or receive an offer he can’t refuse before the window closes.
The Ghanaian star lacks Antonio’s physical attributes, which have been used to great advantage in the manager’s counterattacking setup, and Danny Ings’ track record with the team hasn’t been terrific either.
Divin Mubama may get a few more chances this year, but he is still relatively inexperienced, so if Pedro’s profile is thought to be “perfect” for the London Stadium, it might be a strong late deal to win the game.
