‘Brilliant’ defender Tottenham sold for just £12m could now join Barcelona for £47m

Juan Foyth, a former member of Tottenham Hotspur, is supposedly a player who Barcelona is interested in signing.

Spurs are currently having a fantastic season, so they don’t really have a need to reflect on the players they released. Foyth has made good progress since leaving Tottenham, though, and he may soon land a lucrative transfer to Barcelona.

Juan Foyth could join Barcelona just two years after leaving Tottenham

In 2017, when Juan Foyth was still a teen, Tottenham acquired him from Estudiantes.

At the time, the Argentine was thought of by many as having enormous talent. His time at Spurs wasn’t fantastic, but he possessed all the skills necessary to succeed at the highest level.

Only 32 senior games were played by Foyth for Tottenham during his tenure there. He was loaned to Villareal in 2020 after failing to make an impact under Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho.

The Argentinean enjoyed a fantastic season at El Madrigal, as he won the Europa League in his debut season there under Unai Emery.

In 2021, Emery made the decision to make Foyth a permanent addition, and Tottenham agreed to sell him for merely £12.8 million, netting Emery a profit of £4.8 million (TalkSPORT).

After two more outstanding seasons at Villarreal, Xavi Hernandez, the manager of Barcelona, has expressed a desire to bring him to the club in one of the upcoming two transfer windows, according to ESPN.

Villarreal allegedly demanded that his entire £47 million release clause be fulfilled in the summer. Barca currently thinks that going future, the Yellow Submarine will be “more receptive to offers.”

Foyth could’ve been a star at Spurs

As evidenced by his work at Villarreal and Barcelona’s interest, Juan Foyth has proven to be a “brilliant” defender.

The Argentine, who is only 25 years old, has excelled in Spain over the past three years, which begs the question of why he couldn’t succeed at Spurs.

It’s unfortunate since he would have saved Tottenham millions if he had been able to establish himself there. Perhaps the lack of opportunities in North London destroyed any chance he had.

But now that they are where they are, both parties are happy, and that can only be a positive thing.
