Cowboys Rival Giants Make Controversial Benching Move
FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys at this moment have it bad at the position of quarterback. But at least there is this: They don’t have it as bad as their NFC East basement brothers the New York Giants do.
Dallas 3-6 and is prepping for tonight’s “Monday Night Football” visit from the Houston Texans with Dak Prescott (and his $60 million per season) out for the year due to injury and with new starter Cooper Rush coming off a game in which he threw for 45 yards. Oh, and Trey Lance is in play, maybe as a gimmick contributor.
All that adds up to “having it bad.”
But the Giants? They are sitting at 2-8 and in last place in the NFC East, looking up at woeful Dallas. They have only 15 offensive touchdowns scored through 10 games, ranking them at the bottom of the league in that category.
And so Daniel Jones and his eight touchdowns to seven interceptions ratio is out. On Monday, the Giants announced the decision to move Jones and his $160 million contract to the bench in what they are calling a “football decision.” … and it’s a costly decision, as that means $40 million per year is now going to watch as head coach Brian Daboll picks through the choice of backup Drew Lock vs. Tommy DeVito as the next man up.
Right now, it stinks to be a Prescott-less Cowboys fan, for sure. But there is misery and company available down here at the bottom of the standings, where it also stinks to be a Jones-less Giants fan.
