As details concerning the player’s whereabouts emerge, Leeds hopes to complete a fresh signing today – Phil Hay MOT Leeds News

Despite Leeds United and Bayer Leverkusen agreeing on a price, Nadiem Amiri is still in Germany, according to Phil Hay.

On Thursday [24 August], Leeds announced the acquisition of Joel Piroe from Swansea City, making him their fifth summer signing.

According to Hay of The Athletic, Amiri has a £5 million deal with Leverkusen as well, but the German international is reportedly staying in his home country since he hasn’t fully committed to Leeds

A sum has been agreed upon with Leverkusen, according to a post by Hay on The Athletic’s transfer blog on Thursday [24 August], and Leeds are hoping to complete the signing of Amiri before the weekend.

Amiri seemed to be close to a transfer to Marseille earlier this week, but that deal has cooled recently due to a serious attempt from Leeds to sign him, according to Hay.

“Amiri is yet to fully commit to joining the club and remained in Germany this evening, but Leeds are trying to nail down a signing which would represent another major coup in the Championship.”

New-look attack

Given that the midfielder has experience in the Bundesliga, Serie A, and Champions League from his time with Leverkusen and Genoa, signing Amiri would be a major coup for Leeds.

Leeds bid to complete new signing today as whereabouts of player emerge - Phil Hay

Since joining the German team in 2019, the 26-year-old has made 98 league appearances and has earned five senior level caps for his country. The fact that Ligue 1 powerhouses Marseille were interested in Amiri speaks for itself, but Leeds supporters won’t begin to rejoice over the acquisition until it is properly revealed.

It wouldn’t be the first time a deal fell through when it appeared to be about to be finalized; Max Aarons’ late decision to sign with Bournemouth earlier this month being the most recent instance.

Amiri will fill a vacuum in attacking midfield that Daniel Farke has been scrambling to fill and is likely to arrive at Elland Road before the deadline next week.

In what has been a fantastic few days for the Whites, Leeds’ assault may soon look quite different with Amiri playing just off Piroe and Wilfried Gnonto back in the mix.
