Postecoglou wasted no time in establishing his dominance at Tottenham and returning the appealing style of football that the team’s following craves.

The Australian’s record was marred by the depressing EFL Cup loss on penalties to Fulham. Aside from that, the first six weeks in north London have been really positive.

Tottenham is still unbeaten in the league and last weekend battled hard to draw 2-2 with Arsenal on their home field. When Liverpool visits on Saturday, another test will be in store. But as our exclusive Predictions piece demonstrates, Spurs won’t approach these kinds of games with dread any longer.

Many of Postecoglou’s players are no longer under as much restraint, and most importantly, the back five used by former manager Antonio Conte has been replaced.

Defense-first managers Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo came before Conte, and the Tottenham supporters did not appreciate the gloomy outlook.

Even Martin Keown, a former Arsenal player, was forced to acknowledge Postecoglou’s success at Tottenham while speaking on talkSPORT.

“What I’m seeing at Spurs is transformational, all that cloud has been lifted from the club,” stated Keown.

As a player, it is incredibly liberating when you go from being instructed to simply win the ball and advance it to suddenly being told to play freely. I experienced this at Arsenal under Arsene Wenger following George Graham, and I can see it happening with Spurs.

“This manager shows a level of concern and confidence in his players that Antonio Conte simply did not, and I feel the club is now reaping the rewards of that.

“I just notice that they’re playing with a lot more expression and offensive readiness. Now, the supporters will show up tomorrow against Liverpool ecstatic because it will be a great game and eager to visit White Hart Lane.

“That stadium now has a completely different atmosphere. It’s no longer toxic. They are there to support their side, and the crowd is united.

Keown noticed a Postecoglou moment.

Then, Keown emphasized a crucial incident involving Postecoglou that helped him realize Spurs might once again be a force to be reckoned with.

Keown brought up Cristian Romero’s early replacement during the 2-2 draw between Brentford and Spurs on opening weekend.

Before scoring with a close-range header to give his team the lead, Romero took a blow to the head. But as the game was about to resume, the Argentine seemed dazed and was mobbed by worried teammates.

Romero begged to be allowed to continue, but Postecoglou took control of the situation and safeguarded the player by taking him off early.

Keown thinks that Postecoglou’s compassionate and understanding leadership style, which did seem to be lacking under Mourinho and Conte, has helped him realize how different Tottenham would be going forward.

They can now sense my love and concern when I speak those words, said Keown. “I saw something from a manager, a piece of caring that I haven’t seen in years – not in years! Romero, the Spurs defender, was taken off in that first game against Brentford.

“He’s an aggressive player who likes to push the envelope, and in that game he suffered a head injury, so Postecoglou took him out.

The manager showed some consideration when he responded, “No you’re coming off,” to the man who was acting like a robot and was irate and furious.

And I reflected, “Well, this will be pretty interesting to watch whether he acts like that around the area.
