Another player to jet into Elland Road in next 24-48 hours to seal Leeds transfer – Sky Sports MOT Leeds News

Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow is set to jet to Elland Road in the next 24-48 hours to confirm his transfer to Leeds United, according to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie.

The 32-year-old forward has travelled to America with the rest of the Newcastle United squad for the Premier League summer series, but now that the Whites have beaten Bournemouth to his signature, he is expected to join Daniel Farke’s side.

With Illian Meslier the subject of plenty of transfer interest this summer, Darlow is expected to be the number one for Leeds’ return to the Championship, a division he impressed in with Hull City for the second half of the last season.

Downie took to YouTube to update fans from Atalanta, saying: “He came very, very close to a move to Bournemouth just a few days ago, but they couldn’t match what Newcastle were asking for.

“Leeds United though can and he is advanced talks, where he’ll move there and potentially become their number one goalkeeper.

“He was in training this morning, you’d expect he’d move over to Elland Road in the next 24-48 hours for a medical once that one is finalised.”

The window is up and running

So far this transfer window hasn’t exactly got off to a flyer for Leeds United fans, with almost the entire focus being cast on outgoings at Elland Road as opposed to who is coming in, but that seems to be changing now.

New owners the 49ers aren’t short of cash but are having to invest smartly because of strict financial fair play restrictions, but with Darlow set to be confirmed in the coming days, they’re finally starting to build their plan in Yorkshire.

It speaks to the project being created at Elland Road that Leeds have been able to beat off interest from Premier League Bournemouth, and also the ambition of Darlow that he would prefer to drop down a division in search of definite first team football than sit on the bench in the topflight.

However, for Leeds to have a successful season the addition of Darlow and Ethan Ampadu will have to just be a start rather than the finished business as the Whites are still a fair few additions from a promotion-pushing team
