Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham, finally explains why they did not sign a replacement for Harry Kane.

Son Heung-min, according to Ange Postecoglou, was the reason Tottenham decided against replacing Harry Kane.

For Saturday’s 5-2 victory over Burnley, new Spurs captain Son began down the middle. Though Tottenham started off the game with a goal from Lyle Foster, they went on to dominate, with Son leading the way with a hat-trick for Postecoglou’s team.

With a beautiful curling attempt, Son brought the score even, and Cristian Romero completed the comeback shortly before halftime. After the break, Spurs scored three more goals, including one from James Maddison and two from Son to give him a hat-trick. Son’s third goal was a signature strike as he cut inside the Burnley defense and finished low beyond James Trafford.

Josh Brownhill scored for Burnley late on, but Tottenham kept their perfect start to the season going by winning their third game in a row. After the game, Postecoglou undoubtedly praised Son for his performance.

Postecoglou responded to a question regarding Son’s performance by saying, “One of the reasons we didn’t buy (a number nine) is because Sonny, whether playing centrally or wide, possesses the skills necessary to play in any system.

“I have an image of the squad in my brain, but we are still in the building stage. There is a ton of work huge accomplish.

On the eve of their Premier League debut against Brentford last month, Spurs lost Kane to Bayern Munich. Kane, who scored 30 goals in the top tier last season, moved to the Allianz Arena for £86.4 million, leaving north London for Bavaria.

After drawing with Brentford on the first day, Spurs have won their previous three games, defeating Manchester United, Bournemouth, and now Burnley.

Brennan Johnson, who joined Spurs after leaving Nottingham Forest on Deadline Day, is also available. Johnson, 22, joined Tottenham in a move estimated to be worth £47.5 million. The Welsh international, who primarily plays on the right wing, can also slot in in the middle and gives Spurs’ attacking line more talent and adaptability.

Postecoglou said of Johnson, who has eight goals in the Premier League last year, “He is young and eager and that has been the blueprint for me wherever I’ve gone. He seems like he would fit in. He wants to step up his game because he is hungry.

Tottenham have signed a striker this summer. Alejo Veliz arrived in a £12m deal from Rosario Central but he has not made an appearance yet.
