Agreed Tottenham transfer tees up emotional exit for star loved by Conte but unfancied by Postecoglou
According to rumours, Ivan Perisic may finally make his way back to Hajduk Split as a result of Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to buy Luka Vuskovic from the Croatian team.
When the defender turns 18 years old, Tottenham plans to bring in Vuskovic. Hajduk will receive a windfall of almost £12 million from the deal, but it has since come to light that another benefit would be for them to sign Perisic, even though the two players play quite different positions.
The Evening Standard reports that the Croatian First League’s runners-up ‘feel they are at the front of the queue’ to provide Perisic his next move following his time with Spurs.
Vuskovic will not be available to Tottenham until 2025, while Perisic may move in the opposite direction much sooner. According to the article, there is even a possibility that Hajduk will approach him in January.
Perisic’s contract with Tottenham is already in its final year. To reconcile with Antonio Conte, he joined the team in 2022, but current head coach Ange Postecoglou doesn’t seem to be as fond of him.
The 34-year-old has participated in each of Tottenham’s games this season, but only once—in the Carabao Cup, not the Premier League—of those five outings has he started.
It might be some time before Perisic returns to the starting lineup for Spurs given that they are no longer eligible for the Carabao Cup and have no chance to participate in Europe this season.
Homecoming on the cards for Perisic
Perisic would be taking an emotional next step if he decided to sign with Hajduk. Before departing for Sochaux between 2000 and 2006, he previously advanced in their academy.
He was never given the opportunity to represent his hometown team at the senior level, but if he did, he would be able to help them out with the wealth of experience he has accumulated over the course of his career.
Perisic experienced a protracted stint at Inter Milan and has previously played for teams like Club Brugge, Wolfsburg, Borussia Dortmund, and Bayern Munich. He also has the third-most international appearances for Croatia overall.
