‘I have never seen’… BBC pundit left shocked by the pace of 22-year-old Tottenham player
After observing Micky van de Ven in action against Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United at Old Trafford, Shay Given has provided his assessment of the central defender for Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Manchester City goalie was taken aback by Van de Ven’s speed.
What has Shay Given said regarding Micky van de Ven, the defender for Tottenham Hotspur? Let’s examine this.
Shay Given impressed by Micky van de Ven
Well, this past weekend saw Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United play a 2-2 draw away from home at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
Spurs’ Micky van de Ven was in action. Alongside the excellent Cristian Romero against the Red Devils, the 22-year-old Netherlands international opened the game at the center of the Tottenham defense.
Van de Ven also performed admirably, and Shay Given, the former goalie for Newcastle United, was taken aback by the youthful center back’s speed.
“Van de Ven back yesterday was a huge positive, wasn’t it?” Given stated on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Because of his pace—I have never seen a center-half move as quickly as him—and how high they wanted to press the opposition high up the pitch.”
My View: Micky van de Ven is a Tottenham Hotspur gem
Micky van de Ven is a standout for Tottenham Hotspur and, in my opinion, one of the best young defenders in the Premier League.
When healthy and available, the Dutchman is among the top names on the Spurs roster.
This season, he has made 12 Premier League appearances for Tottenham. One goal has been scored by the defender.
Tottenham has missed Van van Ven when he has missed games due to injury. With him on the team, Spurs are a stronger unit.
Van van Ven reportedly had interest from Liverpool before joining Spurs.Virgil van Dijk thinks highly of him. That doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.
