Tottenham in danger of missing out on star striker deal as AC Milan ‘ready to meet valuation’

Tottenham’s options are dwindling as the transfer window draws to a close.

Mehdi Taremi, a talented Porto striker, could slip through Tottenham’s fingers as AC Milan nears a late-summer agreement. The Iranian was apparently considered as a Harry Kane replacement, but Spurs may have to shift their attention to different targets for the rest of the week.

As recently as 2019, Taremi was still playing domestic football in Iran. But over the subsequent four years, the forward has adapted to life in Europe with ease, making an impression during his one season with Rio Ave before joining Porto.

Taremi, who is currently in his fourth season with the Portuguese powerhouses, has a spectacular resume that includes 80 goals in 151 first-team games. The 6’1″ target man regularly scores goals for Iran at the international level.

In an effort to counteract Kane’s move to Bayern Munich, reports in Portugal from earlier this month stated that Spurs were keeping an eye on Taremi.

Taremi may be overlooked in favor of younger players like Gift Orban and Brennan Johnson, but Gazzetta dello Sport reports that AC Milan is really interested in the 31-year-old.

After having their initial £13 million offer turned down, the Rossoneri are currently in negotiations with Porto, and there is allegedly a general consensus at the San Siro that the sale will close for £17 million.

According to reports, Porto is reluctant to let their top striker depart within the same transfer window that Otavio signed with Al-Nassr. However, with Taremi’s contract having just one year left, this summer might be their last opportunity to make a profit.

Daniel Levy, the chairman of Tottenham, is reportedly stepping up his efforts to sign Johnson from Nottingham Forest since there is still an offensive void to fill. The Tricky Trees place the 22-year-old’s value at £50 million.

Tottenham can at least find solace in reports that they will have unrestricted access to the young player for the remainder of the window as things stand. The cost is reportedly deterring Chelsea, and Brentford withdrew after having its £43 million proposal turned down.

Spurs are still in a critical need to sell marginal players before Friday’s deadline in addition to hiring a new frontman. Those who might leave include Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Japhet Tanganga, and Davinson Sanchez.
