New Tennessee running backs coach De’Rail Sims met with reporters Monday morning, and he had plenty to say.
Sims, along with new linebackers coach William Inge, spoke to Tennessee media for the first time since Josh Heupel recently added them to his staff.
The 38-year-old Sims has been a quick and consistent riser in the coaching world, going from the NAIA level to the NCAA Division II level to the NCAA Division I FCS level to the NCAA Division I FBS level in just seven years, and he got to the FBS power-conference level when he took a job at Louisville in 2021. After two seasons with the Cardinals, he moved to Cincinnati, spending one season for the Bearcats before making a big jump to the SEC — the league where he admittedly never could have met the standards as a player, but the league where he wanted to land as a coach.
