Middlesbrough are reportedly listening to offers for defender Paddy McNair, with Leeds United among clubs interested in signing him, according to TeamTalk.
Despite interest from Premier League teams like Luton Town and Fulham, as well as Championship clubs like Leicester, McNair is only required to stay at the Riverside for another year.
In addition to being “confident and composed” on the ball, manager Michael Carrick called McNair “terrific” (TeessideLive), although Boro are apparently in no position to turn down a good offer for the Northern Ireland international.
Assured and reliable
Despite making 23 Championship appearances for Middlesbrough previous season, McNair found it difficult to secure a starting spot in the defense. Darragh Lenihan and Matt Clarke are just two of the many talented defensive players on Carrick’s team, therefore McNair faced fierce competition for playing time.
He does, however, have excellent experience in the second level and was even named Boro’s Player of the Season in 2020–21.
Given that McNair has established himself as a versatile and dependable player, interest is natural. McNair has 4.37 progressive passes per 90 (85th percentile) and 1.69 progressive carries (96th percentile) [FBRef], demonstrating that he is more than just a defender. He can also move into the middle of the field.
It is obvious why he is desired at Elland Road because of his versatility and ball-playing skills, which are ideal for a Farke team.
Leeds will have to work hard to get his signature because Premier League football is a hard one to resist.
